On Wednesday afternoon a week, a fatal accident occurred in the neighborhood of Shrewsbury, York county, from that prolific source of disaster – the use of fire-arms. It appears that Wm. H. McAbee, aged 15 years, son of Maj. Wm. McAbee, of Shrewsburg, was, in company with a youth shooting birds in the woods and in the act of getting over a fence the gun in McAbee’s hand slipped from the top rail and struck the cap of the piece, by which it was discharged, the load entering near his left temple carrying away the skull and brain, causing his death shortly thereafter. Maj. McAbee, the father of the deceased, has a situation on the Lebanon Valley Railroad, and was in Lebanon at the time of the accident, whither his lady had also gone to make preparations for removal to this Borough in October.
A woman named Mrs. George Moore, a resident of Upper St. Clair township, Allegheny county, Pa., who had for some time been parted from her husband, returned to live with him recently, when some of the young men of the township, thinking her character not irreproachable, seized her, on the night of the 31st ult., and covered her with a coat of coal tar and feathers. She left that neighborhood next day.
