1 December 2008 – PA-Roots, the premier internet resource for genealogical and historical research in Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic region has filed Articles of Incorporation under the Pennsylvania Nonprofit Corporation Law of 1988 and is organized exclusively for the following purposes:
- To make genealogical and historical data freely available on the Internet for public research and educational needs.
- To gather, transcribe, preserve, and promote the study of genealogical and historical data.
PA-Roots was founded in March 1998 by Alice Gayley and Nathan Zipfel to provide research resources for Pennsylvania. Over the past 10 years research resources have been added for each county in Pennsylvania as well as the states of Delaware, Maryland and New York. PA-Roots currently houses over 600,000 individual pages of freely accessible data.
