Valley Council, No. 85, American Legion of Honor, was organized February 7, 1880, with thirty charter members.
The first officers were:

E. Wineland, V.C.
H. P. Hartley, Orator
G. H. Suhrie, Sec\’y
Geo. J. Black, Treas.
Present membership, fifty-four. This order is an insurance association. The present amount of life insurance is two hundred thousand dollars.
