St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran church, situated at Roxbury, is a part of the Berlin charge. The congregation was organized with thirty members, by Rev. J. W. Poffinberger, December 23, 1882.
First officers were:
Elders: Philip Ling, Peter Boyer
Deacons: W. M. Diveley, Daniel Snyder, Joseph Reitz, William Reitz
Trustees: John Ginder, Alexander Ware, Henry Reitz
The house of worship, built at a cost of eleven hundred and fifteen dollars, was dedicated December 25, 1882. The building committee were the pastor, Rev. J. W. Poffinberger, William M. Diveley and Peter Boyer.
The present membership of the church and sabbath school is about one hundred.
