Several Members From County Attend at Somerset, Pa.
Six hundred and eleven members of the Walker clan held their first reunion at, Edgewood Grove, near Somerset. Pa., on Wednesday of last week, coming from all parts of the county and from Maryland, Missouri and, Illinois. They passed a most pleasant day socially.
Interesting features of the reunion were addresses touching more or less upon the history of the family in America and a very enjoyable reunion was held.
Among the Walkers present were I. S. Walker, of Monrovia; Charles Walker, of New London, and G. W. Walker, of Monrovia.
The progenitors of the Somerset county Walker family were banished from England in the latter part of the sixteenth century, owlng to religious and political disturbances. Some of them sought a refuge in Scotland, some in Ireland and other in Holland. It is definitely known that a few of the early settlers of New England were Walkers and that they came from England, while others coming from the mother country located in Eastern Pennsylvania and Virginia. Francis Walker came from Holland to America in 1732, and located in Prince .George\’s (now Frederick county) Md., where he reared a large family.
The officers for the family reunion for the ensuing year are: Amos Walker, president, Berlin; W. E. Walker, vice president, Garrett; R. S. Walker, secretary, Meyersdale; F. J. Walker, Treasurer, Garrett.
