We learn from the Carbondale Advance that Mr. Quackenbush, and the widow of the late J. Aitken, have each brought a suit against the township of Providence, Luzerne county, for damages, in consequence for the accident which resulted in the instant death of Mr. A. and the serious injury of Mr. Q.  The supervisors of the township had neglected to rebuild a bridge over a small stream, which had been washed away by the freshet, or to erect a barricade at the abutment, to prevent teams and footmen from falling into the deep and fatal gorge.  As might have been expected, the neglect proved fatal to one man, his horse, and nearly so to another person riding in the same wagon with him who was killed.  They were driving along the road one dark night, ignorant of the absence of the bridge, and in an unexpected moment, the horses, wagon and contents.  Aitken and Quackenbush, were all dashed to the bed of the stream, in a common mass, killed the horses and Mr. A. and seriously injuring Mr. Q.  The widow fixes her claim for damages at $25,000 but we do not learn the sum fixed by Mr. Quackenbush.

Married on the 5th inst., by Rev. Aug. C. Wedekind, Mr. Allen W. Mentzer, of Lancaster county, to Miss Flanna Dibbel, of Millcreek.

Married on the 5th inst., by Rev. Frederick Krecker, Mr. Cyrus Wolf to Miss Elizabeth Noll, both of Myerstown.

Died on the 14th ult., in Butler county, Pa., Mrs. Barbara Mellinger, (Rohland) wife of John Mellinger, formerly of this place, aged about 70 years.

Died on the 2d inst., in Heidleberg township, Mrs. Catharine Riehm, wife of Christian Riehm, aged 59 years.
