Youth Dies in Accident at Roseville

Robert R. Bushey, Age 17, Brookville High School Senior, Found Two Hours After Accident.

Robert R. Bushey, age 17, a senior in the Brookville high school, was killed instantly early Monday morning when the automobile he was driving struck a bank three miles west of Brookville near Roseville.  

State police of the DuBois substation who investigated the accident state that Bushey’s 1950 Oldsmobile sedan was completely demolished.  

The accident occurred at the intersection of legislative route 33023, which leads from the Alaska schoolhouse to Roseville and route33014 which leads from Roseville to Sigel. The point is one mile north of Roseville in Union township.  

According to state police, Bushey was traveling west on route 33023 and failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection, skidding into a high bank. A portion of the windshield pierced his head killing him instantly.  

Police say there were skid marks on the highway covering a distance of 210 feet to the point of impact.  

Young Bushey, who was a part time employee of Riverside Market in Brookville working in the produce section, had attended a Christmas party for employees of the Super Value chain in Clarion Sunday evening. He was in the company of Miss Amy Lou Altman, of Brookville, leaving her at her home in Jenks street at 2:30 a.m.  

State police place the time of the accident at 3:45 a. m.  

The wreckage was discovered about 5:00 a. m. by Tom and Larry Hartzell, of Brookville R. D. 4, who were enroute to work.  

They called an ambulance and police from the home of Ron ald Clark, who lives nearby.  

The youth was laying on the front seat when found. A crowbar was required to open the door. As the door of the vehicle was opened it touched the earth and a spark was noticed in the engine which was followed by flames. Mud, which was the only extinguishing agent available, was piled on the motor to put out the flames before removal of the body could be accomplished.  

Bushey was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Bushey, of Foxburg, Clarion County . The boy’s father is claims manager for the Nationwide Insurance Company’s district office in Brookville, residing in Brookville during the week. His son lived with him in North Pickering street .
