John R. Fleming

John R. Fleming Dies in Pittsburgh  

John R. Fleming, director of the Audio Visual Department at the Brookville Area High School , and a former Borough councilman, died Monday, November 6, 1978 in Presbyterian Hospital , Pittsburgh , at the age of 40.  

He was born in Brookville, May 18, 1938, son of William and Hazel Plyler Fleming, and was married to Bonnie Smerkar, of Fryburg in 1962.  

He graduated from Brookville schools, and received a bachelor's degree in education, and a master's degree in communications from Clarion State College. He received an honorable discharge as a sergeant from the Army Reserve Program in 1964.  

He and his family spent two years in American Samoa where he served as an elementary principal and teacher at the Feleti Teacher Training School .  

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Learning Resources Association; the National Educational Association; Pennsylvania Education Association; Association of Communication of Technology, and the Brookville Educators Association.  

He is survived by his wife, his parents and five children, Gingie, Brenda, John, Jr., Tanya and Susan; a sister, Eledryth Melton, of Alemeda , Cal. ; three brothers, William Fleming, Jr., of Meadville: and Craig and Dick Fleming, Brookville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 1978 at 3:00 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Darr Briggs officiating. Interment will be in Pisgah Cemetery , Corsica .

Friends will be received at the Donald C. Galbreath Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
