Richard W. Say

Richard “Dick” W. Say, 73, of Athens , Pa. , passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at home.

Dick was born in Pittsburgh on December 2, 1939, the son of Milo and Dorothea Say. He graduated from Brookville Area High School in 1957 and Slippery Rock University in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree. Dick also earned his master’s degree from Slippery Rock University in 1965.

On June 15, 1963, he married the former Marjorie Shick in Brookville , Pa. Dick taught health and physical education at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School from September 1961 to June 1970 and at Sayre Area High School from September 1970 to June 1999. He coached basketball and track at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School and cross country and swimming at Sayre Area High School . Dick enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Sayre Education Association, National Education Association, and Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Dick is survived by his wife, Marjorie Say; son, Gregory Say and wife, Samantha of Charlottesville, Va.; brothers, James Say and wife, Sylvia of Kane, Pa. , and Evan Say and wife Elizabeth of Corsica, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Erin Say on August 30, 1998; brother, David Say; and nephew Michael Say.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Epiphany Parish, Sayre, with the Rev. Brian Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery , Athens .

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond Street , Sayre.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to Guthrie Hospice, 412 Tomahawk Rd , Towanda , PA 18848 or to the Epiphany School , 627 Stevenson St Sayre , PA 18840 , in memory of Richard “Dick” W.
