James D. Siar

August 2, 1922 - May 6, 1987

A memorial service was held Saturday morning for James D. Siar of Hermitage, a former teacher in the Brookville Area High School, who died Wednesday, May 6, 1987, in the Sharon General Hospital.  He was 64.

Mr. Siar graduated from the Summerville High School in 1940, Clarion State University in 1948, and received his Master's degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1967.  He had been employed from 1967 to 1982 in the History Department of Edinboro University.

Mr. Siar taught social studies at the Brookville Area High School, his last year being at the end of the 1967 school term.  He also coached baseball here.  Prior to that he had taught at Summerville and Turtle Creek.

He served with the U. S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Born in Summerville on August 2, 1922, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Caroline (Baldwin) Siar.  He was married in Clarion on August 16, 1947, to the former Norma Jean Bloom, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters:  Mrs. Stephen (Shelby) Balser of Brooklyn and Mrs. Robert G. (Laura) Holyfield of Memphis, TN; one son, David A. Siar of Glenn Oaks, NY; four sisters:  Mrs. Priscilla Hughey of Pullman, WA,. Mrs. Carol Koch of Brentwood, Mrs. Cecil (Elenor) McCool of Summerville and Mrs. Richard (Emilie) Greenawalt of Clarion; and three brothers:  Malcolm Siar of Dallas, TX, Summers Siar of Tionesta, and Robert Siar of Erie.

Mr. Siar was a member of the Church of Christ, Hermitage, where services were held.  The Coulter Funeral Home of Sharon handled arrangements.
