I am researching the antecedents of John BARD (19 Nov 1845 - 2 Jun 1925) of Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co, Pa. John BARD was my maternal grandfather and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Brethren Church for over 50 years (1875-1925). He married Phoebe MELLOTT (10 Nov 1845 - 10 Feb 1904). Phoebe was a descendant of Gedeon La Plante MARLET/MELLOTT who emigrated to the USA in 1662; Sebastian WINK (Van Der VINK) who emigrated to the USA in 1727 with other family connections to AKERS, STILLWELL. John BARD's parents were: father - Charles BARD (C1815 - 1860) married Susan ?? ((April 1816 - 15 Feb 1891). Issue (3): John (see above), Christopher (1848-1911), Charles Lewis (1851-1929). Nothing is known of Christopher's life. Charles Lewis was unmarried. Susan, Christopher and Charles Lewis are buried in the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Charles Sn. in buried in an unmarked grave in the Wink Family Cemetery. I have a copy of a deed transfering Fort Littleton Plantation on the County of Bedford by a John BARD to his son, Captain Benjamin BARD on March 15 1779. (Recorded at the Bedford Co. Courthouse Book A, pages 355/356). This is the only record I have relating to the BARD family pre-dating the birth of John BARD's father, Charles BARD but proves no direct family relationship. I would be grateful for any information concerning the antecedents of JOHN BARD and of the BARD family origin. I am John NEWLAND, age 64 years, living in Alice Springs in the Heart of Australia. My mother was Ida Francis BARD (9 Oct 1887-5 Nov 1970) born in McConnellsburg, Pa. - seventh child of John and Phoebe (nee Mellott) BARD.George Wright Thu May 29 17:27:38 1997
