• The first weekly newspaper in the county was near the close of the 1700s, and was put out by Jones, Hoff and Derrick, 3 young printers. The paper was called the WEST CHESTER GAZETTE.

• In 1808 a weekly paper was begun in Downingtown by Charles Mowry, entitled the TEMPERANCE ZONE. The next year the paper's name was changed to THE DOWNINGTOWN AMERICAN REPUBLICAN.

• THE CHESTER COUNTY DEMOCRAT was in existence in 1833, published by George Fisher.

• The above 2 papers were consolidated, and published under the title THE AMERICAN REPUBLICAN AND CHESTER COUNTY DEMOCRAT, in JAN of 1883.

• THE AMERICAN SPECTATOR, was also published in Downingtown in 1835.

• THE DELAWARE GAZETTE was around the same time, and by 1853 published by GEo. W. Pearce

• THE REPUBLICAN was a merger, in 1863, of THE CHESTER COUNTY TIMES and the DELAWARE GAZETTE, published by Samuel R. Downing

• THE CHESTER COUNTY TIMES....1863 Major Moore.
  

• THE CHESTER AND DELAWARE FEDERALIST, published by Dennis Whelen...1809. (name later changed to THE VILLAGE RECORD)

• THE PENNSYLVANIA CORRESPONDANT published in 1804 by Asher Miner
