GEORGE GARRISON SMITH, of Downington RD 1, died at the Memorial Hospital,
West Chester, yesterday morning, at the age of 60 years.  He was the son of
the late SAMUEL and RACHEL SMITH, of Lincoln University, and had resided in
the vicinity of Downingtown for the past 20 years.  He was employed on the
farm of the Downingtown Industrial School for many years.  Surviving are:
three sisters, Mrs. FRANCES MCKIM, of Avondale; Mrs. MATTIE HALL. Of West
Chester; and Mrs. CHRISTINA RHODES, of West Chester RD1; five brothers,
CLARENCE, of Ercildoun; LOUIS E., of Avondale; PERCY, of Media; HANFORD, of
Chatham, and BRINTON of  Guthrieville; two aunts, Mrs. ELLA KINSLOW and Mrs.
ELIZABETH GRAY, of Oxford; two uncles, HERBERT WALLS, of Lincoln University,
and EDWARD WALLS, of Oxford: also several nieces and nephews.  Funeral
services will be held from Mt. Raymond U.A.M.E. church, Downingtown, on
Saturday, at 2o'clock.  Internment will be made in Union Hill Cemetery,
Kennett Square. Friends have been invited to call at the Prout Funeral Home,
725 Merchant St., Coatesville, on Friday evening.

GEORGE F. SMITH
George F. Smith, a well known resident of 629 Belmont Avenue, died early
today at his home in his 56th year.  He had been ill for about a week.  Mr.
Smith was a son of the late CONRAD and ELIZABETH SMITH and was born at
Freeland, Pa.  He came to Coatesville about ten years ago and had been
employed by the Lukens Steel Company.  He was a World War I veteran and
served with the 28th Division in France.  He was a member of the Lutheran
Church of Our Saviour.  Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. VERA A. SEARFOSS
SMITH; two daughters, LEAFA, wife of HARRY B. BLAIR, of Coatesville and
LOUISE M. SMITH, at home; and two brothers, J. WALTER SMITH, of Philadelphia
and CHARLES W. SMITH of Hazelton.  The funeral will take place from Archie S.
Maclean's funeral home, in this city, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.  Friends have been invited to call at the funeral home Sunday evening.

Simmers - Duli
A double ring ceremony performed in St. Mary's Greek Catholic church, at three o'clock Saturday afternoon, solemnized the marriage of Miss Helen Duli, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Duli, of 167 Strode avenue, and Mr. Robert Simmers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Simmers, of 45 W. Fifth avenue.  The Rev. Paul Shogan officiated.
A reception for 200 guests was held at the Polish-American club at six o'clock.  Afterward the couple left for a trip to Ocean City, N.J.  When they return they will make their home with the bride's parents.
Mrs. Simmers attended Scott senior high school, and is employed in her mother's grocery store.  Mr. Simmers was graduated from Scott senior high school and is employed at Lukens' By-Product plant.

     Clayton K. Paxson, one of the most widely-known residents of the
part of Chester County, died in Coatesville hospital yesterday shortly
after noon.  He would have been 73 years of age if he had lived until
November 2.
     Mr. Paxson had not been in good health for more that a year.  Last
April he fell and injured his back and he was in the hospital for more
that two weeks.  Since then he had been confined to his bed for the most
part.  On Tuesday last he fell and broke his hip. 
     He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday
and was under an oxygen tent until he passed away.
     Mr. Paxson was a son of the late Joseph C. and Mary Ann Kling
Paxson and was born near Black Horse where he spent his boyhood.  He
received his education at Fernwood Academy and George School and later
attended the Schissler Business College in Norristown.
     In 1898 he married Miss Louie McPherson, of Sadsburyville, and for
a number of years he engaged in farming on West Lincoln highway near
Black Horse.  Later for many years he farmed the old McPherson homestead
near Sadsburyville.  He retired about thirteen years ago.       Mr.
Paxson was a member of Upper Octorara Presbyterian church and Keystone
Lodge, 569, F. and A. M. of Parkesburg.  He was a charter member of
Sadsbury Grange which was organized in 1893 and also a member of Pomona
Grange, No. 3, of Chester and Delaware counties.
     His wife died in September 1938, and he is survived by two brothers
and a sister, William H. Paxson, of Atglen, with whom he made his home;
Harry A. Paxson, of Parkesburg, and Mary, wife of Ferree C. Grossman, of
near Boyd's Corner, and several nieces and nephews.
     The funeral will take place from Upper Octorara church on Sunday
afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

     Mrs. Mildred Schrack, a daughter of Mrs. Louisa Schrack, of
Sadsburyville, and the late S. Edgar Schrack, and Horace Paxson, a son
of Mr. and Mrs. David T. Paxson, of near Sadsburyville, were quietly
married at Upper Octorara church on Saturday at noon.  The Rev. Albert
E. Stuart, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony.
     Both of the young people are well known and popular in that
section.  The bride is a graduate of the West Chester High school and
Beacom college, while the groom is a graduate of the Coatesville High
school and attended George School and Pierce Business college.  For some
time Mr. Paxson has been in the employ of the State Department of
Highways.

Joseph B. Paxson
  Joseph B. Paxson after suffering cerebral embolism on Tuesday, died at
his home in Atglen yesterday morning.  He was in the 47th year of his
age.
  Born in West Fallowfield township, he was the son of William H. and
Florence Bailey Paxson, and spent most of his life near Parkesburg and
in Atglen.  He was a member of the Parkesburg First Presbyterian Church
and served on the election board in West Sadsbury township and Atglen
for many years.
  Mr. Paxson is survived by a sister Rachel P. Cosgrove, of Germantown.
  Private funeral services will be held at the convenience will be held
of the family.  Interment will be in Glen Run cemetery.  Friends have
been invited to call at the Wilde funeral home, 434 Main Street,
Parkesburg, Tuesday evening.

COSGROVE-PAXSON
     Miss Rachel A. Paxson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Paxson,
of Sadsburyville, and Thomas P. Cosgrove, son of Mrs. Mary Cosgrove and
the late William Cosgrove, of Philadelphia, were united in marriage on
Saturday, August 4, at a ceremony performed at the home of the Rev.
Burtis Hallock, former pastor of the Parkesburg Presbyterian church,
officiated at the double ring ceremony.
     The bride, a graduate of Parkesburg High School and the Lancaster
General hospital nurses training school, is assistant director of the
nurses at Coatesville hospital.  The bridegroom attended the University
of Pennsylvania and is associated with the Philadelphia United Insurance
company.
