- CALDWELL/TORRENCE: Seeking all information on descendants of James CALDWELL, who died 19 Dec 1836 in Punxsutawney. He had many children, and at least one son who came to Jefferson County with him, whose name was Josiah CALDWELL. Josiah died in 1843, leaving a widow Mary (GRAFFIUS) and several children. I would like to know more about the family of Josiah and Mary (GRAFFIUS) CALDWELL as well. Additionally, a William Waddell CALDWELL (who lived in Indiana County and married Martha GEORGE) had two daughters who married and moved to Jefferson county. They were Mary, who married James TORRENCE, and Sarah, who married Dr. A.J. JOHNSTON. These two couples are buried in the Findley Street Cemetery in Punxsutawney. Also buried there is Fleming CALDWELL, d. 7 Sep 1892, age 69. Would like to determine if he was a son of Josiah CALDWELL. Any information welcome, and I have much more information on CALDWELLs from other counties and states.

- DINGER, MAGILL, MOORE posted by Eric Magill on Friday, May 30, 1997
- Looking for info on the "MAGILL" surname. My great grandfather, John Leroy MAGILL, was born in Baxter, Jefferson County, in 1879 and moved to DuBois at age 13. He married Emma F. DINGER on 2/22/1900. I found his parents' names in his obituary -- William and May MOORE MAGILL, but haven't been able to find much about them. I found a William MAGILL on the first taxables list for Clover Township in 1843 and a Samuel MAGILL on the first taxables list for Rose Twp. in 1827. Samuel is also on the 1843 taxables list for Clover. I feel that these are ancestors of mine but I'm not positive. John Leroy had at least 2 sons -- Earl and Allen -- and at least 3 daughters -- Florence, Winifred and Helen. There were other kids, too, who I believe died at very young ages. Our family isn't very close and older family members can't tell me much. My main goal is to determine when my family immigrated here from Ireland and trace its history here in the U.S. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
