- September1849, Orphan Courts Records
Lewis H. Eaton, a minor son of Thomas Eaton, late of East Hempfield Twp., respectfully represents that both his parents are dead without leaving any estate that he is over 14 years and has no guardian. That he is desirous of learning a trade, and therefore must have a guardian to put him to one, and for that purpose would recommend Jacob Weitzel of the City of Lancaster. Whereupon the Court appoint Jacob Weitzel Guardian as prayed for.
We presume that Lewis H. is the Hiram Eaton that born 1833. He was the son of Thomas and his third wife, Sarah Siegfried (Seifried?)
Any information on any of these families would be appreciated. Thank you.

- I am a direct descendant of Michael Kauffman who came to America with his family around 1716-1717 and settled, I believe, in Lancaster Co. PA. The family was Menonite then and coming to Penn's colony for freedom from religious persecution in Germany and Switzerland.
Two of his sons, Michael and my ancestor Martin Kauffman (eventually Martin Kauffman, Sr.) were early settlers in Jacob Stovers Shenandoah Settlement in Virginia near Luray, Massanutten Mountain -- what is now Page Co, VA.
I would love to hear from some of my PA relations, especially with regard to finding more about the early Kauffman descendants who stayed in PA and also about links back to Europe and tracing the line further.
