Apgar Edward A. 2/17/1930 p.13
Edward A.Apgar,66,years old,of Westfield,N.J.,formerly of
Easton,died at 5:30 yesterday morning at the Muhlenberg
Hospital,Plainfield,N.J.from injuries sustained in an accident
Friday morning.Mr.Apgar was a carpenter contractor and was
working in his shop at Westfield when a piece of wood which he
was sawing split and penetrated his abdomen,puncturing the
large intestine.Mr.Apgar was taken to the hospital and
underwent an operation,but peritonitis developed before he
received surgical treatment and resulted in his death.He was
born at High Bridge,N.J.,and resided in Easton for a number of
years,removing to Westfield from there 19 years ago.Deceased
is survived by his wife,Mrs.Emma Wikoff Apgar;three
sons,Karlton,at home;Horace V.,of Easton and Arthur D of
Bisbec Ariz.;three sisters,Mrs.William Supten and Mrs.Thomas
Evans,of Easton,and Mrs.Warren E.Traffic,of Chicago,and one
grandson,Horace V.Apgar Jr., of Easton.The funeral will be
held at the parlors of J.Raymond Lambert,Westfield
avenue,Westfield,Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.Interment
will be made in the fairview cemetery.Now Hillside Cemetery

Mrs.Maggie Apgar,wife of Edward A.Apgar,of College Hill,died
of a complication of ailments at 12 o'clock last night at the
residance of her brother in law Fred Martin,728 Reeder
street,in the 38th year of her age.Besides her husband she is
survived by two sons,Hirace Apgar and Arthur Apgar;by one
sister,Mrs.Fred Martin: by one brother,Clarence Major,of this
city,and by a step brother Albert M.Cawley,of Bethlehem,The
deceased was a member of St.Peter's Lutheran Church and Sunday
School.

Mrs.Apgar At Rest
Rev.Charles R.Trowbridge,of St.Peter's Reformed
Church,conducted the services at the funeral of Mrs.Maggie
M.Apgar,wife of E.A.Apgar,held at 3:o'clock this afternoon at
the residance of Mrs.Fred Martin,a sister of the deceased,728
Reeder street,College Hill.Friends of the family were the
pallbearers.Interment took place in the Easton Heights
cemetery.

Horace Apgar,Metallurgist At I-R,and Musician
Horace V.Apgar,77,metallurgist and materials engineer
of Ingersoll-Rand Co,from 1919 when the metallurgist
department was formed until 1963 when he retired,died
yesterday in Easton Hospital where he was a patient for three
weeks.He lived at 730 Reeder St.,Easton.Mr.Apgar was employed
by Ingersoll-Rand for 50 years.He specialized in the
research,development and control of the heat treatment of
materials for rock drills,hollow drill steel and associated
mining machinery.He joined the company in 1913 in the heat
treatment department and later srved in the phsyical testing
laboratory until the metallurgical department was formed.
For many years,Mr.Apgar was a musician and was instrumental in
the I-R Band and orchestra during World War I with the late
John Davis as dorector.During World War II,he was a sector air
raid warden on College Hill.Mr.Apgar was a member of St.John's
Lutheran Church, Easton.Born in Easton on June 7,1898,he was a
son of the late Edward A.and Maggie M.Major Apgar.Surviving
are his widow,the former Jennie Schulte; two sons,Horace
V.Jr,of Oklahoma City,Okla,and Kenneth D,of Audubon,Pa,and
three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m.Wednesday in St.John's
Lutheran Church.Interment will be in Northampton Memorial
Shrine.The Clements Funeral Home,Easton,is in charge of
arrangements.

Arthur D.Apgar,71,native of Easton,died yesterday in
his home,38 Olcott Way,Ridgefield,Conn,after a long
illness.Born on Feb 11,1903,he was the son of the late Edward
A. and Maggie M.Major Apgar.A graduate of Easton High School
and Pennsylvania State University,he was a geologist and
mining engineer.Surviving are his widow,the former Genevieve
Clayton of Denver Colo.:a daughter three sons,a brother,Horace
V.of Easton,and 14 grandchildren.Funeral services were held
today in Ridgefield.
