Descendants of George Jacob
Koerner (Some
points of reference when you do this genealogy and history are:
Baden, Bavaria, Bohemia, Moravia,…were mostly in the Austrian
Empire from about 1400s, when the Holy Roman Empire split into
two from Lutheranism and attacks from the East by the Ottomans.
The North became Prussia and the South, Austria (meaning Eastern
Holy Roman Empire). Many wars ensue to expel Islam from Europe
and reunite the H.R.E., some called Anti-Reformation to include
the Napoleons. Germany was not a nation state until =1870
(Kaiser Wilhelm). The Ottomans were defeated at the gates of
Vienna. (1400s)). Library
records show (also the CJCLS) a Jacob _ Koerner arriving, 1740,
Philadelphia. Who is researching this connection and its
connection to Nazareth, North Hampton, PA besides Gary Lee
Koerner? PA Documents tell of this connection of who settled in
Paradise Valley, (now Monroe Co., PA). Moravians, who had moved
from the original Austria through today’s southern Germany, move
into the Bethlehem,/Nazareth PA regions (ref Moravian College
Library). Some re-settled into Kernersville, NC (National
Archives Documents Kerners) and Toronto, Canada. Beginning
with George Jacob (6.1785) and Catherine Salome xxx (6.1792)
Koerner (s) (Konners, Kourner,
Kerner) of Braden, Germany, arrived Northampton, County, Pa
before 1827. We need to
determine exactly when, how, where and why. Their children, from
the church registry,
were Johannes (b.1807) Germany, married Susanna, Jacob
J.(b.1812, Germany)? and
Wilhelmina, (6.1831) USA. Sometimes called Hannah married George
Nauman Jacob J.,
initially, may have married Margareta and Anna Marie(b.1835).
Later he may have
returned to Germany to marry Catherine of Bavaria and re-entered
NYC port from
Hamburg with one child Katherine, aboard the Grande Bretagne,
August 1837 (CJCLDS, type written, shows them departing Havre,
France, at this time) then re-settled with others in Paradise
(formerly Price) Township, Monroe County (formerly a part of
Northampton County) Pocono Mountains, Pa. Their respective ages
in 1837 were 26, 25, and
5 years old. Later a
June 30, 1850 US Census, PA Records (copy at Stroudsburg, PA
Library); and a Presbyterian and Evangelical Lutheran Church
Registry shows additional children; Mariah 15, Jonathan 13,
Elizabeth 11, Matilda 10,
Nancy 8, George 5, another Katherine 4, Sarah Ann 2, and Samuel
1 month and later
Charles. The first Katherine is assumed deceased or married in
1850. George
Jacob participated in the early Lutheran and Presbyterian
churches. Jonathan's
grave (d.1859) is marked and is in the remains of a grave yard
behind the
commercial stone quarry at Mill and Merry Hill Road. Assumed is
his parents and some siblings
are buried-unmarked here along with 3 Native Americans graves.
Since the children were mostly
girls, their Koerner names disappeared, e.g., Wilhelmina (Nauman),
Elizabeth (Boorem),
deaths, and becoming other ancestors through marriage of other
names like Engles, Seegar, Kresge, Strong, Hayes, Jackson,
Knoll,...others. There was a
lot of travel back to today’s part of Germany, Austria, and
Czech Republics. The 1860
census shows Jacob's father, George J. claimed Baden as home,
not Bayern (Bavaria), as on
Jacob's ship certificate, also Charles 8, and Nancy and Thomas
Hens, 18 and 24,
respectively are listed in the same household Later George son
of Jacob marries Katherine Utt
(Delaware-Lena Len ape); most can remember 16-22 children. Most
are buried in Cemeteries at Keokee Chapel and
St. Pauls Churches. Most descendants were born off Koerner Road
and Pa. Route 940 on a 40
acre farm formerly known as the Hattie (Koerner) and Wes Seegar
estate currently owned by the
Shelton Family (formerly Tom Custard Family). (There is a Native
American connection. These tribes are the same as the
Manhattans, who sold the Island to the German-Dutch Settlers for
$24.) The
original barn and spring have been restored. Only the fireplace
and chimney stand from the
original farmhouse. Seach the attached family tree for further
family roots. Other Koerner
Family's live on Koerner Road. Further
information on the above exists in the Monroe Co., Pa.
Courthouse, Library, Historical
Society, USA National Archives, Commemorative Biographical
record of Eastern
Pennsylvania, p.1625, Chicago 1900, Dr. Robert Nauman, Baton
Rogue, La., Edwin Westcott (Pocono Eddy),
E.Stroudsburg, Pa. and .Jean Bush. These church records (German
English) deeds, naturalization papers, tax
records, and translations. Please research and share information
with us.. George, of
Jacob J. of George Jacob, marries Catherine Utt having 16-22
children and hence the
continuation of this Koerner Family Name. Jonathan, of George
Jacob died in 1859 at the age of
22 and probably without children. He is buried in the above
cemetery (Paradise Township
Historic Site). This Grave needs a Tombstone-Marker.

(refer above to probable
other generations not yet discovered since 1740)
Generation No. 1 1. GEORGE
JACOB1 KOERNER was born July 21, 1781 in Baden, Germany, and died March 20,
1866 in Monroe Co, Pa.. He married CATHERINE
SALOME. She was born October 06, 1792 in Baden, Germany, and died
October 21, 1872 in Monroe Co, Pa.. Notes for GEORGE
JACOB
KOERNER (ref PA Records,
Stroudsburg Library, PA Census): 1.
Participated in early Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches. 2.
Immigrated by ship between 1820 to 1827 on possible ship name
Grande Bretagne (Great Britian). Due to the
early English census, historians, church record takers the
spelling of the Koerner name has change gradually over the
years. When George W. Naumann married Wilhemina the spelling was
Konner. In the 1850 census the spelling was Kourner and other
spellings are Korner, Kohrner, Kerner, and Karner. George Jacob
Konner supposedly immigrated from Germany or Austria in 1827
with a wife Catherine and 2 sons. They arrived in Northampton
County, Pa from Philadelphia, then moved to Paradise Township,
Monroe County, Pa. The birth
date of 1846 for daughter Catherine S. Koerner is questionable
since her mother would have been 54 at the time. George J.
Kourner, age 65 is found in the 1850 census five houses from
that of George W. Nowman (Nauman) and his wife Wilhelmina Konner
Nauman and Wilhelmina's mother Catherine Kourner (Konner) age 58
was living. Both George and Catherine are reported to have been
born in Germany. George
Kourner, age 84?, is found in the 1860 census living with his
son Jacob J. Kourner. George and
Catherine had 2 sons and five daughters..Johannes died at the
age of 21. Although Johannes was married, he did not seem to
have any sons.. So the
Koerner name was carried on thru Jacob John Koerner and
blossomed from there.. Update from

in Doylestown, Pa. Also lived in Scranton with a nephew. Died in
the "Home of the Friendless". Catherine supposedly sued the
government of Germany for lands confiscated from her parents
George J. and Catherine S. Koerner. A story of this suit was
printed in a March 1866 New York Paper. ( Source was from the
notes of Wilhelmina Koerner) Catherine's birth date is in
question since her mother would have been 54 years old and a 20
year old suing the German Government.. More then likely it is
1836..

be the first church in Paradise Township. This Cemetery lies
behind a now defunct stone quarry on the dead end section of an
intersection of Red Rock and Merry Hill Road, just 3/10 of a
mile west of Paradise on Red Rock Road. One must walk there
through the quarry or by following an unkempt grass road. As one
enters the quarry following the work road past the scale bed and
what probably was the quarry office, assume you would be facing
a 12 o'clock position on the face of a clock. Look and walk
through the flat portion of the quarry towards what would be
approximately 1 to 2 o'clock, at the top of what is a short walk

does have a 2 to 3 foot high, hand lain stone wall.. (July 12,

OVERPECK. She was born June 06, 1847, and died 1918 in Monroe Co, Pa.. Notes for GEORGE
KOERNER: Most
descendants were born on George's original homestead off Devils
Hole Road. "Black Hole Rd." lies east of what is now Mt..
Pocono, Pa. It intersects with Pa. State Route 940.. Other
Koerners settled nearby and a road holds the ancestor name of
Koerner. The original homestead close to where Koerner road
intersects with Devils Hole Rd is the location.. Facing west at
this intersection, one would turn right, or north, going a very
little distance, the lane to homestead is on the left.. The
property was a 40 acre parcel which somehow Hattie Koerner and
Wesley Segear acquired from George Koerner. In the
early 1990's the property was acquired by the Wesley Family
from, the former owner Tom Custard Family. The original barn and
spring have been somewhat restored. The original homestead house
either deteriorated and fell down or was destroyed by fire. The
foundation and chimney still exist.. Sixteen
children have been accounted for, but it is reported (hearsay)
that George and Catherine (Utt) Koerner had 22 children.. Local
folks also said that Catherines mother was native American..
Elizabeth Utt's maiden name was Overpeck, which is German.
Possibly Elizabeth Overpeck's mother was native American.. The
Native Americans where always on the Koerner farms and it is
reported as late as the 1940's that they were still coming on
the Koerner farms and taking farm products.. New update
