RANNAHAN, JOHN

Rank and Organization:  Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps. Born: 1836, County of Monahan, Ireland. Accredited to: Pennsylvania.General Order No.: 59, 22 June 1865.

Citation:  On board the U.S.S. Minnesota in the assault on Fort Fisher, 15 January 1865. Landing on the beach with the assaulting party from his ship, Cpl. Rannahan advanced to the top of the sandhill and partly through the breach in the palisades despite enemy fire which killed or wounded many officers and men. When more than two_thirds of the men became seized with panic and retreated on the run, he remained with the party until dark when it came safely away, bringing its wounded, its arms and its colors.

RAUB, JACOB F.

Rank and Organization:  Assistant Surgeon, 210th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: Weaversville, Pa. Born: 13 May 1840, Raubsville Northhampton County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Hatchers Run, Va., 5 February 1865.

Date of Issue:  20 April 1896.

Citation:  Discovering a flank movement by the enemy, appraised the commanding general at great peril, and though a noncombatant voluntarily participated with the troops in repelling this attack.

REED, GEORGE W.

Rank and Organization:  Private, Company E, 11th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: Johnstown, Pa. Born: Cambria County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Weldon Railroad, Va., 21 August 1864.

Date of Issue:  6 September 1864.

Citation:  Capture of flag of 24th North Carolina Volunteers (C.S.A.).

REID, ROBERT

Rank and Organization:  Private, Company G, 48th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: Pottsville, Pa. Born: Scotland.

Place and Date:  At Petersburg, Va., 17 June 1864.

Date of Issue:  1 December 1864.

Citation:  Capture of flag of 44th Tennessee Infantry (C.S.A.).

REIGLE, DANIEL P.

Rank and Organization:  Corporal, Company F, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: Adams County, Pa. Born: Adams County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Cedar Creek, Va., 19 October 1864.

Date of Issue:  26 October 1864.

Citation:  For gallantry while rushing forward to capture a Confederate flag at the stone fence where the enemy's last stand was made.

REISINGER, J. MONROE

Rank and Organization:  Corporal, Company H, 150th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at:  Meadville, Pa.  Born:  Beaver County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Gettysburg, Pa., 1 July 1863.

Date of Issue:  Unknown.

Citation:  Specially brave and meritorious conduct in the face of the enemy. Awarded under Act of Congress, January 25, 1907.

RHODES, SYLVESTER D.

Rank and Organization:  Sergeant, Company D, 61st Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at:  Wilkes-Barre, Pa.  Born:  Plains, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Fishers Hill, Va., 22 September 1864.

Date of Issue:  16 February 1897.

Citation:  Was on the skirmish line which drove the enemy from the first entrenchment and was the first man to enter the breastworks, capturing one of the guns and turning it upon the enemy.

ROBINSON, THOMAS

Rank and Organization:  Private, Company H, 81st Pennsylvania Infantry.   Entered service at: Tamaqua, Pa. Born: Ireland.

Place and Date:  At Spotsylvania, Va., 12 May 1864.

Date of Issue:  1 December 1864.

Citation:  Capture of flag in a hand-to-hand conflict.

RODENBOUGH, THEOPHILUS F.

Rank and Organization:  Captain, 2d U.S. Cavalry.  Entered service at: Pennsylvania. Born: 5 November 1838, Easton, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Trevlhan Station, Va., 11 June 1864.

Date of Issue:  21 September 1893.

Citation:  Handled the regiment with great skill and valor, was severely wounded.

ROHM, FERDINAND F.

Rank and Organization:  Chief Bugler, 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry.  Entered service at:  Juniata County, Pa.  Born:  Juniata County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Reams Station, Va., 25 August 1864.

Date of Issue:  16 October 1897.

Citation:  While his regiment was retiring under fire voluntarily remained behind to succor a wounded officer who was in great danger, secured assistance, and removed the officer to a place of safety.

ROOSEVELT, GEORGE W.

Rank and Organization:  First Sergeant, Company K. 26th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at:  Chester Pa.  Born:  Chester, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Bull Run, Va., 30 August 1862. At Gettysburg, Pa., 2 July 1863.

Date of Issue:  2 July 1887.

Citation:  At Bull Run, Va., recaptured the colors, which had been seized by the enemy. At Gettysburg captured a Confederate color bearer and color, in which effort he was severely wounded.

ROUGHT, STEPHEN

Rank and Organization:  Sergeant, Company A, 141st Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: Crampton, Pa. Born: Bradford County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Wilderness, Va., 6 May 1864.

Date of Issue:  1 December 1864.

Citation:  Capture of flag of 13th North Carolina Infantry (C.S.A.).

ROUSH, J. LEVI

Rank and Organization:  Corporal, Company D, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves.  Entered service at: ------. Born: Bedford County, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Gettysburg, Pa., 2 July 1863.

Date of Issue:  3 August 1897.

Citation:  Was one of six volunteers who charged upon a log house near the Devil's Den, where a squad of the enemy's sharpshooters were sheltered, and compelled their surrender.

RUTTER, JAMES M.

Rank and Organization:  Sergeant, Company C, 143d Pennsylvania Infantry.  Entered service at: ------.  Born:  Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Place and Date:  At Gettysburg, Pa., 1 July 1863.

Date of Issue:  30 October 1896.

Citation:  At great risk of his life went to the assistance of a wounded comrade, and while under fire removed him to a place of safety.
