- I am seeking information regarding John Benjamin TILBURG, Sr., said to have come from Potter County and perhaps from Brookland. He was married to Addie. His son was John Benjamin Tilburg, Jr., killed in WWII. The surname may have been VANTILBURG or VONTILBURG. The name may have been spelled Tilburgh or Tilberg at certain times. - NICHOLS - JOY, Nancy M Nichols married Daniel Joy, she lived and died in Sharon Center or Shinglehouse , PA., she is buried in the Sharon Center Cemetary , she died Jan. 21, 1887. Daniel and Nancy (surname JOY) had 3 children , 1. Sarah, b. appr 1850 ,m. George H. Colegrove, one child Hattie Eliza who married Leon Burdic. 2. Harriet , b. appr. 1854 , m Olin Jones and 3. James W. (J.W.) b. appr 1860 m. E. Racheal Maxson . JW might have ran a billard hall in Shinglehouse , he died Oct 2, 1912 by drowning , fall off ShawMut train line in Olean NY. Census records of 1880 , Potter County list Nancy and Daniel as being born in NY , her parents born in Conn ., his parents RI.

- WASHBURN - CADY - BROWN Jemima Washburn & her sister Nancy?Washburn were born near Port Allegany, Pa. Potter Co. abt. 1805 & were left orphan when young & were raised by John H Brown & Elizabeth (her name maybe be Washburn)John Brown settled in Brookfield, Pa. abt. 1812 & died there. Jemimia Washburn married Ransome Cady, who was born in Vermont in 1807 & settled in Troupsburg, NY Steuben Co. I would like information on the Washburn line that was in Potter Co. at that time.

- Elkland Journal, (Elkland, Tioga Co., PA) William S. STONE, 76, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William SEARL of this place, Wednesday, May 1, (1940) following a two weeks illness and a stroke suffered Saturday morning. Deceased was born at Harrison Valley (Potter Co., PA) on May 20, 1864, to Samuel and Phoebe Stone. He was married in 1889 at Troupsburg (Steuben Co., NY)to Miss Harriett SCHOFIELD and to this union seven children were born. He worked as a laborer on farms in Cowanesque Valley until his retirement in 1912. Mr. Stone lived in several of the villages in this valley including Mills, Potter Brook, Westfield, Cowanesque and Harrison Valley and was a member of the Missionary Alliance church of the latter village. His wife died January 13, 1923 at Corning, and for the past 17 years Mr. Stone had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Larston Lunger at Osceola (Tioga Co., PA). Left to mourn his death are: two daughters, Mrs. William (Henryettah) Searl of this place, and Mrs. Larston (Stella) Lunger of Osceola: three sons Grant Stone of Cameron Mills (Steuben Co., NY), Carl Stone of this place (Elkland, Tioga Co., PA) , and Howard Stone of Elmira( Chemung Co., NY); three half brothers, Grant and Cecil Fairchilds of Binghamton, and Gwinn Fairchilds of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one half sister Mrs. Grace Lamb of McDonough, NY; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 2 pm, at the home of Mr. and Mrs Willliam Searl with Rev. Edmund T. Rowe, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Burial will be made in the Fairview Cemetery at Osceola. I would like to hear from anyone with information on these people. Thank you

- THOMPSON, Jenks. b. 1868 lived in Harrison Twp in 1910 with wife Fannie b. 1874, adopt dau Maggie b. 1893. Jenks father, Theodore b. Feb. 1833 was living with them as well as Emeretta SCOTT b. 1880 with Emeretta's son, Edward b 1903. Emeretta was divorced.

- THOMPSON, Bert A. b. May 1867 (son of Theodore) lived in Harrison Twp in 1900 with wife Flora L b. Nov 1867 (Flora's parents were born in Ireland) and children William b. 1887, Mary b. 1891, Claud b. 1895, Maud b. 1896 and Harry b. 1898. I do know by 1922 they had moved from Harrison to Spring Mills.

Apr 1884 later married ____ LOVELL; Nettie b. Oct 1890; Elmira b. Nov 1896 (Nettie and Elmira either married a Warren PERRY or a Walton ROUNDS but I don't know which one married which); Archie b. 28 Feb. 1899 d. 18 Aug 1918 (WWI).
