BUHLER/BEELER/CLEMENT: Seeking information on Mattheson/Mattison Buhler, b. 1827, Baden, Germany, who on 15 Sep 1856 filed his intention to become a citizen in Potter County. In 1859 he became a citizen in Lock Haven, PA and "Americanized" his name to Madison James Beeler. His intention papers required someone who knew him to verify his length of stay in the US. This was done by a Moses Clement. Family lore says Mattheson married and his wife died in childbirth. The baby was given to his wife's parents to raise and he then traveled to Wisconsin and settled there. I am looking decendants of Jacob YOUNG, b. 12/24/1799 in Schoharie Co. NY, son of Peter J. Young and Catherine BRASS (BROSS). Moved to Cortland Co. NY about 1819 and after second marriage moved to Potter Co about 1845. Children: Catherine, Delana, Matthew Mark, Mary, Walter, Nancy, Samuel, Peter. My GG Grandfather, Abraham, was Jacob's brother.
