I give and devise to my husband, Joshua Elder, and to his heirs, and assign all that tract of land on the waters of Plum Creek, formerly Armstrong Township and Westmorland County, warranted, purveyed and patented in my name, containing 392 and 1/2 acres and allowance, on condition that he gives to Rachel Wallace, 60 dollars as compensation for her service to me during my illness and of his giving my relatives, Sarah Elder Gregg, a handsome locket and chain worth 12 or 14 dollars, and likewise give Amelia McAlister my purple pattern gown. I give Ann Stepher my surfrey gown. I give the rest of my wearing apparel to my niece, Ann Elder, and also a locket and chain.Editor's Note: This partial record of the will of Sarah Elder was given to Don Rupert by Jean (Clark) Gerken, daughter of W.A. Clark - one of the owners of the old hardware store.
