Peter & Mary Raver Croco - 50th Anniversary
A Golden Wedding
The aged couple were married at the home of the wife, April 5, 1856, by the Rev. J.K. Lawson, in Westmoreland Co. Mr. Lawson is now a resident of Wilmerding. The date of the marriage was also the anniversary of Rev. Lawson's birth and he was present again to celebrate with the couple he married a half century ago, an event of rare occurence. A very pleasant program was arranged for this event. Rev. Lawson was assisted in carrying this out by the Rev. C.W. Wycoff of the Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Croco have long been active members, and by Rev. J.K. Hilty, a son-in-law.
Speeches and a general good time was the order of the day, and though the cards of invitation said, "no gifts," many were brought by warm friends and near relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Croco have lived at their present home, following the life of their ancestors, as farmers ever since they were married. Seven children, four sons and three daughters are living and were present, these being, Mrs. Mary Hilty of Indiana County, Mrs. Nettie B. Linhart of Broughton, Mrs. Attie Gerhold of Homestead, Mr. Frank Croco of Homestead, and Mr. E.H. and I.W. Croco of near Summit Park. Twelve grandchildren were also present, and about one hundred guests.
Mr. Croco is 84 and his wife 67 years of age, both hale and heart, and very active. They enjoy the respect and esteem of their entire community and church, as happily stated by their pastor, the Rev. Wycoff, in a speech made for the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Croco of nearby Summit Peak, and whose pictures appear above, celebrated their golden wedding on April 5th. Mr. Peter Croco was born on the farm, where he now resides, eighty-four years ago, his father and grandfather having lived there before him.
