The wood, light brown in color and similar to White Ash, is used for tool handles, baskets, and sporting goods.
Red Ash is a small, spreading tree with typical Ash bark and branching. The leaf is like that of White Ash but is sometimes hairy along the leaf stem. The fruit is norrower than in other ashes. In the East a variety of it, known as Green Ash, is identified by smooth twigs and shoots. Typical Red Ash twigs are velvety.
