Wherry Obituaries
BYRON P. WHERRY, aged 83, died at his residence, 415 First St., Apollo, at 11:05 a.m., Friday, August 7, 1959, following a heart attack which occurred on July 26.He was born June 6, 1876, at South Bend, a son of John Nesbit and Sara Walker Wherry.
He was a member of the Apollo First Presbyterian church and was pensioned form the Vandergrit United States Steelworkers and had made his home at his present address for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Wilson Wherry; one son, Paul A. Wherry, Sr., of Vandergrift; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Bessie) Noe, New York, and Mrs. Boyd (Louise) Prescott, Kiski township, Apollo, Star Route; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara B. Wherry, Bessie B. Wherry and Helen M. Wherry, all of Indiana, Pa; two brothers, J. Elwood Wherry, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Oscar M. Wherry, Vandergrift, R.D. 1.
JEANETTE OWENS WHERRY - 2nd Wife of Byron P. Wherry
Jeanette Owens Wherry, aged 85, First St., Apollo, died at 11:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 1960, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Tarentum, PA. She had been in ill health for a mumber of years.Born January 26, 1875, in Kiski Township, she was the daughter of George and Leticia Uhing Wilson. Her husband, Byron P. Wherry prededed her in death.
Mrs. Wherry was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church of Apollo, Woman's Association of the Presbyterian church, and the WCTU.
Survivors include a number of cousins, and three step children: Paul H. Wherry, Vandergrift, Mrs. Ralph (Bessie) Noe, New York City, and Mrs. Boyd (Louise) Prescott, Star Route, Apollo.
Friends were received at the King Bros. funeral home in Apollo where a service was held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Warren Martin in charge. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
OSCAR M. WHERRY: Oscar M. Wherry, 81, Vandergrift, R.D. 1, Riverview, died at his residence at 3 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1965. He was born April 9, 1884 at South Bend, a son of John Nesbit and Sara Walker Wherry.
Survivors include his wife, Magdeline Kepple Wherry; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Himes, Andover, Ohio, and Mrs. Harold (Susan) Rupp, Penn Hills,; a son, John N. Wherry, Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren; three sisters, Clara B., Bessie B., and Helen M. Wherry, all of Indiana, PA.
Friends were received at the N. Lee Roy King Funeral Home, Apollo. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteside, pastor of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Vandergift. Burial was in the South Bend Cemetery.
He was a member of the Vandergrift First Presbyterian Church, an elder for many years, a director of Apollo Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 50 years, and had lived at his Riverview address for 51 years.
He had owned and operated a service station from 1929 until his retirement in 1950.
The family requests that flowers by omitted and that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
