OLD FIFTH STREET CEMETERY
Moved to Oakland
From WCHS files: Established in 1823. Consisted of two lots -- 2/3rds of an acre on the bank of the Conewango at west end of present 5th Street Bridge.
Mrs. Patience Gilson, widow of John Gilson buried there in April 1823.
Eli Granger, one of the workers at the Grave Yard Bee, facetiously selected a hickory tree under which to be buried. He was drowned in the Conewango shortly thereafter -- and was the 2nd burial in the plot.
Caleb Wallace also was buried at this site.
Margarette, wife of Archibald Tanner d. 28 January 1825 at the age of 25.
Climena, wife of David Mead, aged 24. Harvey Jones d. 1 May 1826 aged 43.
Sarah D. wife of Dr. H. S. Newman d. 30 July 1827 (sister of Abraham Ditmors).
Infant of Dr. Newman.
A daughter of Ethan and Matilda Owen.
John Owen (no information) was buried at this site. Rev. Soldier was buried there in 1843.
All the graves were transferred to Oakland in 1863.
