The girls' basketball team was first organized in 1931. although handicapped by lack of knowledge, experience, and a gymnasium, a fair start was made. Under the coaching of Miss Miller, we gradually acquired some understanding of the game and learned a few of the tactics that make for good basketball playing. The next year the team was more successful due to the fact that the girls began to realize what the game was all about. In the season of 1933-34 girls basketball was entirely dropped, but the sirit still remained and the team was re-organized again this year.
The season of 1934-35 opened with West Newton, followed by Sewickley in quick succession, both of whom defeated us without much trouble. We also played Rostraver, against whom we were not much of a match. The latter part of the season was more successful because the girls were permitted to use West Newton's gymnasium. The most interesting game of the season was the last one with Sewickley. The squad showed much improvement and great ability in holding their own.
The fact that we were often defeated has not discouraged us. We have made a beginning and next year with the student body interested and supporting us we hope to make a different record.
The team together with the entire school, wishes to express their appreciation to West Newton High School for the use of their gymnasium.
Positions on the team for this season were as follows:

Centers: Miller, Thomas,
Side-centers: Bovard, Lees, Fabian
