Parents and Brother of Harold Uptegraph
GEORGE W. UPTEGRAPH, 83, of 325-B North Fourth St., Apollo, died at his residence Wednesday, June 14, 1972 at 5:30 a.m. He was born Nov. 8, 1888, in Tarentum to Phillip and Rose Ecker Uptegraph.
He was a retired barber in Apollo, retiring in 1962. He was a member of the Apollo-Spring Church Sportsmen's Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mary A. Johns Uptegraph; Three sons, Harold Uptegraph, South Bend; William Uptegraph, Manchester, Iowa; and Kenneth Uptegraph, Elders Ridge; four daughters: Mrs. William (Dorothy) Schriver, Vandergrift; Mrs. Lawrence (Janice) Reigh, RD 3, Apollo; Mrs. John (Mary) Salee,, Tacoma, Washington, and Mr.s Lloyd (Sarah) Sallade, Apollo; 27 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren; one brother and three sisters: Harry Uptegraph, Monongahela; Mrs. Ellen Huston, Apollo; Mrs. Kathryn Crawford, Clairton, and Mrs. Lovard (Edna) Love, RD 1, Apollo.
MARY A. UPTEGRAPH, 92, of 229 Bryant St., Vandergrift, formerly of the Apollo area, died Jan. 4, 1987, at 8:24 a.m. in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin Twp.
Born June 10, 1894, in Nowrytown, Indiana County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Kelly Johns. She had lived in the Apollo area fro most of her life. She was a Lutheran.
Survivors include three sons: Harold Uptegraph of South Bend, William of Manchester, Iowa, and Kenneth of Elders Ridge, PA; four daughters: Mrs. William (Dorothy) Schriver, Vandergrift; Mrs. Lawrence (Janice) Reigh, RD 3, Apollo; Mrs. John (Mary) Salee,, Tacoma, Washington, and Mr.s Lloyd (Sarah) Sallade, Apollo; 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Uptegraph in 1972; three sons, Lester in 1945, Lyle in 1941, and Ernest in 1968; four sisters and three brothers.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer and Rae Funeral Home, Apollo, and Tuesday, Jan 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. when a funeral service will be conducted. The Rev. Raymond Hausele, pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Vandergrift will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Kiski Township.
ERNEST P. UPTEGRAPH, 46, of 104 South Warren Ave., Apollo, was injured in an accident while at work at Raychord Corp. in Apollo on April 3, 1967 and died of his injuries in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Uptegraph suffered multipy contusions and internal injuries in the accident at the Apollo plant when he was caught and pulled by a cable car. He was first taken to the Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, and then transferred to West Penn where he died on Sunday.
Born in Washington Twp, Westmoreland County, on Nov.14, 1921, he was the son of GeorgeW. and Mary Johns Uptegraph.
He was a member of the Apollo Hose Co., No 2, and the recording secretary of Local 206, United Steel Workers of America, Apollo.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Elder Uptegraph; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Carol) Bartlebaugh, Greensburg, and Deborah, at home; two sons, David Franklin and Mark Calvin, both at home; two grandchildren; his parents of N. Apollo; three brothers, Harold of South Bend; Willima, Manchester, Iowa, and Kenneth, Elders Ridge; four sisters, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Shriver, Vandergrift; Mrs. Lawrence (Janice) Reigh, Rd. 3 Apollo; Mrs. John (Mary) Sallee, Phillipine Islands, and Mrs. Lloyd Sallade, Apollo.
Friends were received at the Harold B. Heckman Funeral Home, 274 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, until the time of services Wednesday, July 17, with the Rev. Joseph B. Hennessey, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Apollo officiating at the service.
